PERFORMANCE & BUILD
The Joy-Con 2 aim to address many of the common critiques of the original Joy-Cons (especially ergonomics, battery life, and comfort of use).
The larger size helps with grip and reduces hand fatigue. Magnetic attachment simplifies attaching and removing the controllers. The analog sticks are redesigned for smoother feel and better durability, though they still do not use Hall-effect sensors. The inclusion of a mouse sensor adds flexibility in how the controllers are used, especially with the Switch 2’s new UI and games that support this mode.
The battery life is a strong point—about 20 hours under typical use—and charging through the console or compatible grips or docks makes them convenient. Build quality is upgraded overall, with improved buttons and a more solid chassis. Some trade-offs remain (for instance, the slightly bigger size means bulkier feel compared to the original Joy-Con), but improvements are notable.
